Welcome Message from the President

The International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine (IAASM) is an international membership organisation of leaders in the specialty of Aviation and Space Medicine (ASM) and has a charitable arm, the IAASM Educational Trust. It is a truly global organisation, incorporated in New Zealand, dedicated to education and furthering the science that underpins our medical specialty.

The Academy was founded in 1955 and is a non-profit society staffed entirely with volunteers. Any funds arising from its events and all donations are pledged directly to the Educational Trust which grants scholarships annually to enable doctors in countries where ASM training is not available to become specialists in ASM. Scholars go on to contribute to the infrastructure in their home countries and hence augment global aviation safety.

As part of our educational remit we hold an annual Congress, the next being in Cape Town, South Africa, 1 – 4 November 2027. This gives doctors and scientists the opportunity to present their research findings and share them with the Aviation and Space Medicine community. We also hold online webinars, act as mentors to IAASM Affiliates and get involved in STEM outreach activities.
